IWF-Chefin Christine Lagarde hat US-Präsident Donald Trump heute vor einer Eskalation des Handelsstreits gewarnt. „Die Spannungen in der Handelspolitik haben bereits ihre Spuren hinterlassen, das Ausmaß der Schäden aber hängt davon ab, was die Politik als Nächstes tut“, schrieb Lagarde in einem veröffentlichen Blog im Vorfeld des G-20-Finanzministertreffens am Wochenende in Buenos Aires.

Unter der Annahme, dass die angekündigten Sonderzölle auch umgesetzt werden, würde die Wirtschaftsleistung laut IWF weltweit 2020 um 0,1 Prozent gegenüber den bisherigen Erwartungen gebremst.

Kämen die diskutierten Zölle und Vergeltungsmaßnahmen zwischen den USA und China auf Waren im Wert von jeweils 200 Mrd. Dollar (171 Mrd. Euro) sowie US-Zölle auf importierte Autos hinzu und würde dies dann eine Vertrauenskrise bei Investoren auslösen, würde das die globale Wirtschaftsleistung in zwei Jahren um 0,5 Prozent oder eine Summe von rund 430 Mrd. Dollar gegenüber den bisher erwarteten Werten drücken.

IMF chief Christine Lagarde has warned US President Donald Trump today of an escalation of the trade dispute. „The tensions in trade policy have already left their mark, but the extent of the damage depends on what the politicians are doing next,“ Lagarde wrote in a published blog in the run-up to the G20 Finance Ministers meeting in Buenos Aires this weekend.

Assuming that the announced special tariffs are also implemented, the economic performance would slow according to IMF worldwide 2020 by 0.1 percent compared to previous expectations.

If the discussed tariffs and retaliatory measures between the US and China on goods worth 200 billion dollars (171 billion euros) as well as US tariffs on imported cars added and this would then trigger a confidence crisis with investors, that would be the global economic performance in two years by 0.5 percent or a total of about 430 billion dollars compared to the previously expected values.
